Origin of Tuxedo
Tuxedo or better known as Tux, originated in the USA around 1888 and is named after the Tuxedo Park, a Hudson Valley enclave for New york's finest. What started as a dress coat for men at formal events, was replaced by shorter dinner jackets and bow ties, known currently as the Tuxedo.
Composition
Although having evolved, the most traditional composition of a Tuxedo is a dress shirt, a dinner jacket, low cut waistcoat, black bow tie and oxford dress shoes. The dinner jacket of a Tuxedo is made with silk or satin and the trousers are made with a single silk or satin braid covering the outer seams. A black low-cut waistcoat, or a cummerbund, a white dress shirt, a black silk bow tie, a pair of shirt studs and cufflinks, and black oxford shoes completes the traditional look for a Tuxedo.
Colour
Tuxedos are traditionally associated with Black and White. Typically consisting of a Blackcoat, trousers, bow tie and waist coverings, with a neat white shirt underneath for some contrast, the traditional Tuxedo is no doubt a timeless look for any formal event. It's one of a kind look for a man, but it isn't the only look. Present in a diverse range of colours, Tuxedo's are now more than the traditional Black and White. A Gray Tuxedo defines modern classiness, a White Tuxedo can be a great choice for warm weather when paired with a black bow tie and trousers, while Novelty Tuxedos are fun and a good choice for those who want to make a blast.
